LAWRENCE M. THOMAS, P.E. & STEPHEN J. CHASE
The nearly 50 years of Larry's and Steve’s combined experience includes both consulting engineering and design-build contracting. This background provides a unique perspective that enables them to provide services that meet both the technical and budgetary requirements of a project.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from The Ohio State University, Larry acquired a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the HVAC industry by designing commercial HVAC systems for a consulting engineering company.
Heeding a mentor who said that every consulting engineer should work as a contractor once in his career, Larry chose a position with a well-known and respected design-build contractor. His hands-on experience with all aspects of a project, from initial design to final installation, gave him indispensable knowledge of people, projects and real-world situations.
Steve likewise worked for a design-build contractor, serving as senior project engineer with regional retail mall developers. Later, while working at a consulting engineering firm, he discovered that the design-build relationship could improve the delivery process of mechanical systems. His oversight of all phases of a project — from needs assessment and strategic planning to construction management and startup supervision — helped clients increase funds from operation and speed the initiation of rent payments.
Larry founded Thermal Environmental Systems, Inc. in 1993 to provide consulting services to commercial and industrial clients, using his expertise to effectively design systems with cost of construction, ease of maintenance and performance in mind. The firm broadened its base to include regional retail mall developers when Steve joined as a partner in 1995, and was recently renamed TES Engineering to reflect its expanded scope and capabilities.
