Senior Living Design Experience

  • Gig Harbor – Assisted Living and Nursing Home located in the Seattle, Washington, area.  This multi-story design consisted of a dual-purpose facility with one side of the facility being independent living and the other side being assisted living.  HVAC systems installed were single-zone rooftop units for the common areas such as the pool, billiards, dining, assembly and office areas with perimeter wall-mounted AC units for the rooms.  Unique building design features created challenges for equipment locations that were solved by creating teamwork between architect and engineers.
  • Cottesmore – Seattle area facility with a similar design approach to Gig Harbor.  Again, physical constraints of the building design required a strong coordinated effort among all design teams to be able to design systems that would work and not detract from the appearance of the facility.  Compliance with the State of Washington’s Energy Code was paramount.
  • Heather Hill – A 97-room assisted living facility located in the Cleveland area.  This project design included a complete water source heat pump loop to each room with a central cooling tower and boiler system.
  • Anchor Lodge – An assisted living addition to an existing nursing home in the Lorain, Ohio, area.  This project also included a water source heat pump loop to each suite with a central cooling tower and boiler system.  This project also included a hot water radiant snow melt system for the walks surrounding the entrance to the addition area.
  • Jennings Hall – Another assisted living addition to an existing elder care facility in the Cleveland area.  This project included a two-pipe heating and cooling system to the suites with vertical fan coil units in each suite.  The central plant consisted of an air-cooled chilled water plant and multiple cast iron boilers.  Central dining and office areas were conditioned with large VAV units and boxes.
  • Boardman Rest Home – An assisted living facility in Boardman, Ohio, which utilized a four-pipe heating and cooling system with fan coil units in each suite.  The central plant also consisted of an air-cooled chilled water plant with multiple heating boilers.

  • Broadview Multicare – We added a new chiller and distributed fan coil units for all the rooms of the previously non-air conditioned facility.  Challenged by physical constraints of the building, we found a creative and efficient way to install AC for each suite.   We also renovated the corridor AC systems and improved building ventilation and odor control.

  • Corridor Ventilation – We have worked on a number of renovation projects over the years where we have been asked to help out with odor control.
